View on Echerntal
The "Spraderbach" (veil waterfall) in the Echerntal. The goal of one of Schultes' numerous walking tours. J. A. Schultes 1809 after a mountain tour into the Dachstein mountains: "You will scarcely believe your eyes, you will hardly dare to believe that you could have come here."
Dr. Franz Sartori (1782-1832)
From "The Austrian Switzerland or a pictorial representation of the Salzkammergut in Austria on the Enns" „.... But what most distinguishes this region is the beautiful waterfalls to be found there. Before one has quite reached the end of this region, on the right there appears the Spraderbach waterfall (veil waterfall), which partly falls from a huge wall of stone, and partly glides gently down the wall, and whose threads of water in the sun reflect the thousandfold colours of the rainbow or gleam like silver ...."
"Party from the Echernthal near Hallstatt" The picture became synonymous with the "classical Viennese Biedermeier landscape." The "composition appears especially balanced here. The contrast between the bright sunlit green of the meadows and the shady areas is emphasised." Wilhelm Raabe (1831-1910)
From "Tales" „.... one can not leave Hallstatt without having seen the veil waterfall, the Spratenfall, Waldbachstrub and cast an enchanted glance over the Dachstein and the Karls ice field. We would be laughed at if we returned home without this memory."
