Koppenbrüller Cave

In
a 19th century guide book Koppenbrüller Cave is described as a
"renowned show cave". Since no show cave operation is recorded at that
time it may consequently be assumed that locals took interested
travellers into the cave. Later Georg Lahner and Hermann Bock
systematically explored the cave and as early as 1909 the first paved
walkways were opened to the public. Contrary to the other two caves,
Koppenbrüller Cave - geologically the "youngest" of the three show
caves - is still traversed by subterranean streams.
The
entry section of the cave is mostly water-free but in periods of thaw
and heavy rainfall a true nature spectacle occurs: then - within
minutes - the dry streambed swells and turns into a powerful ‘roaring'
torrent demonstrating the tremendous power of water. Beside this
outstanding nature phenomenon which depends on seasonal weather
conditions, adventure trekking tours for all generations provide
captivating - sometimes "squeezing" - underground experience.
