East shore hiking path
This adventure hike around Lake Hallstatt -
which takes about three hours - takes you from Steeg or Untersee to
Obertraun. The east shore hiking path is especially suitable as a
family hiking experience. A short trip by boat or train provides a
change of scenery. Particularly impressive is the fjord-like lake
district formed by the Ice Age glacial ice which bestowed it with its
current appearance approximately 10,000 years ago. A
botanical nature trail between
the lakeside and the railway line takes you through lush pastures, past
individual houses and through the wood. You cross
the deepest part of Lake Hallstatt
(125 m) via the suspension bridge. The view across Hallstatt, which
picturesquely nestles against the opposite lake shore, reveals itself
as a further highlight of this hike. After another half an hour, you
reach the end of the east
shore hiking path in Obertraun. You can take the train back or travel
the romantic way by ship across Lake Hallstatt.
