Hike to Mount "Predigstuhl" in Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt

Tour start in the valley

Some say "Predigstuhlr", others "Predigtstuhl". But they all have one thing in common: the hike up the 1,233-metre-high panoramic mountain is a unique nature experience and should not be missed on any holiday in Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt. Provided you have stamina and mountain experience! Then nothing stands in the way of a magnificent view over the Goiserertal to the Dachstein glacier!

Let's get started!

Whether with your own car, or very environmentally friendly with the public bus, we go to the starting point of our hike. We start our tour in the valley at the Bad Goisern tourist office. Cross the car park "Bad Goisern Mitte" and the Salzkammergut main road (B145) and walk towards the discounter Hofer. Past the supermarket, take a slight left on the road with a sidewalk, past the town sign "Lasern" in the direction of our hiking destination. After a few minutes' walk we pass a large information board. We turn left and follow the sign "Höhenloipe Predigstuhl".

As we all know, the journey is the goal

Our hike leads us along the mountain road with numerous curves and breathtaking views further and further towards the destination. Quaint farmhouses, small farms and shady rest areas flank our path through the Goiser district of "Wurmstein". And if you feel like it, you can also make a detour to the Rathlucka-Hütte excursion restaurant. This is a bit off the beaten track and can be easily reached in about 20 minutes on foot. Definitely worth a visit on the ascent or descent.

Up towards the "Ewige Wand" (Eternal Wall)

A mountain farm road leads us directly to the enormous construction of the "Ewige Wand" (Eternal Wall). If we are lucky, we will see extreme climbers in the overhanging "Kunze-Edlinger-Führe". Just before the Berghotel Predigstuhl, now a reading hotel, the path now leads over the cycle path in many serpentines through the very steep mountain forest. You get up quickly. A well-secured rock face allows the hands to grip a little. As a reward, there is a great view of the Goiserertal and the Dachstein.

Towards the summit

In half an hour we reach the very exposed summit of the Predigstuhl with its romantic rocky backdrop. The summit tour is magnificent, and the view down is tingling. Be careful with children!

Back to the valley

Whether on foot, from the valley or by car to the mountain inn - we wish you an incomparable hike to the Predigstuhl in Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt. Hail to the mountains!

Tips: Hiking in spring

The days in the Salzkammergut are getting longer. The temperatures are finally getting warmer, more and more hikers are heading to the mountains. But be careful: Especially in spring, there are a few things to consider: There is often still a lot of snow on the mountains, so be careful when crossing snowfields. After winter, you are usually still a bit "rusty", so warm up accordingly in advance and plan your tour carefully. Let your host know the planned route. This can lead to quick help in an emergency. But there's more to consider:
