Hiking on the "Salzkammergut Soleweg" - 2nd stage: Steeg (Bad Goisern) to Bad Ischl
The 2nd stage on the "Salzkammergut Soleweg" leads from the Bad Goiser village of Steeg in 4 to 5 hours over 15 kilometres to the spa and imperial town of Bad Ischl. The path always goes slightly downhill and is accessible with all-terrain prams. Numerous viewpoints are waiting for you!

Koppental Hiking Trail in Obertraun
The 10km long trail leads from Obertraun to Bad Aussee through the romantic Koppen valley. Total walking time is around 3 hours. You will need sturdy walking shoes. There is an opportunity to stop off for refreshments in the Koppental valley.
Hiking through the Echern Valley

The steep track “Gangsteig” steep track in Echerntal
A Challenge for mountaineers. A steep track, blasted out of the mountain, over the Waldbachstrub waterfalls in Hallstatt. Walking time about 30 minutes. Only for experienced hikers with hiking boots.
Hike to the Wiesberghaus
Day hike on the high plateau with numerous further hiking options.
From Hallstatt through the Echerntal valley, or by cable car to 1884 m above sea level and through the karst landscape. Really fantastic! Surefootedness and mountain experience required.
Hiking to the "Waldbach" origin in Hallstatt
A hike for nature lovers. 5 to 6 hours walking time. Lots of silence and great views. Hikers with mountain experience. Don't forget hiking shoes! Endurance and sure-footedness are prerequisites.
Hiking to the viewing plattform ”5Fingers”
Fantastic views of the Salzkammergut region! 1/2 hour to the summit Easy trail alt. 2,109 metres on the top of Mount Krippenstein in Obertraun on Lake Hallstatt.

Walk through the Echern Valley in Hallstatt
Leisurely tour through the front part of the Echerntal. About 1 1/2 hours. Promenade with numerous information boards. There is a lot to see. Especially popular with families. Suitable for strollers.
Hiking to the Zwieselam
From Lake Gosau "Vorderer Gosausee" up to "Zwieselalmhöhe". After 1.5 hours you reach the "Zwieselalm" there you have a beautiful few over "Gosaukamm", "King Dachstein" and the lake.

Hike to the Hirschaualm in Hallstatt
A unique panoramic view of the southern part of Lake Hallstatt awaits you on this approximately 1½ hour, family-friendly hike to the Hirschaualm between Hallstatt and Obertraun.
Across the karst plateau
The recently established Nature trail on the Dachstein plateau is an important component of the World Heritage Hiking world. This trail travels across the karst plateau and "lures" with pristine high alpine scenery.

Hiking trail “Margschierf” on Mout Krippenstein
The bride Karstlehrpath leads trough a real "lunarscape"on Mount Krippenstein in Obertraun on Lake Hallstatt. Hiking duration around 6 hours.
Hiking from the Gjaidalm to the Wiesberghaus to Hallstatt
This trail to the Wiesberghaus is the easy option.
The descent to Hallstatt, however, is quite tough and requires a lot of stamina. A great day hike of about 6 hours. An adventure for all experienced mountain enthusiasts!
Hiking to the "Gosaunet-Platzerl" on the Zwieselalm
If you love panoramic views, the "Gosaunet-Platzerl" on the Zwieselalm is the right place for you. The trail is easy to do and just right for a family outing. The ascent is by cable car. So easy.
Hike to the "Steingrabenschneid" in Hallstatt
Beautiful views and unique fauna and flora. The panoramic view is overwhelming. Experience an unforgettable hike of about 2.5 hours to the Steingrabenschneid. Also possible with mountain-experienced children from the age of 10. Of course, only with the right equipment!
Hike via the "Zwieselalm" to Russbach in Gosau
Family-friendly hike of around 3 hours and 6.6 kms past numerous mountain huts with refreshment stops. Ascent and descent via cable car possible!
Breath-taking World Heritage hiking

Hike to the Donnerkogel in Gosau
A tour for experienced mountain hikers. The ascent to the mountain takes around 2 to 3 hours. Good preparation and surefootedness are required. In return, you get to see a fantastic Alpine panorama. High alpine tour for experienced mountain hikers only!
Hike to the Grindstone Quarries in Gosau
Family-friendly hike to one of the most historic places in the Gosau valley. The hike can be combined with a visit to the "Löckermoos" high moor. Numerous panoramic views over the Gosau valley accompany you along the way.
Round hiking trail to the “Schönen Aussicht“ (Beautiful View)
45-minute detour to one of the most beautiful viewpoints above Hallstatt. A small nature tour for families. Get to know Hallstatt from another side.
Geological Loop Tour in Gosau
Starting at the Gosauschmied, this circular walk is also possible in bad weather in proper walking boots. Follow the road up to the lower Gosau lake for about 1km and then bear left along a gravel track.
Hiking to the natural spectacle "Kessel" (Cauldron)
About 30-minute walk for the whole family. This natural wonder gushes only after extensive rainy weather! Therefore, get informed beforehand!
Trail "Linzerweg"
A very beautiful, but not quite unsafe way, which requires high-alpine equipment, vertigo freedom and a good stamina. Duration: 6h.

Beautiful two day tour, with unique scenery, around a wildly rugged mountain range. With a wonderful overnight stay in an Alpine hut. For experienced mountaineers.
Hiking to the Iglmoosalm in Gosau
The Iglmoosalm is very popular amongst hikers. You can reach it either the easy way by means of the "Gosau slow train" or by taking a one-and-half-hour walk from Gosau Mittertal.
Hike to the ice cave in Obertraun on Lake Hallstatt
From Obertraun on foot to the Schönbergalm. Two-hour tour for the experienced mountaineer. A small challenge for advanced climbers, including a unique cave experience at 1458 m above sea level!
Hike from Hallstatt to the "Simony hut" Simonyhütte
Mountain experience and stamina are a prerequisite for the high alpine mountain tour of about 6 hours. The route leads steeply up through the Echerntal valley of Hallstatt to the Wiesberghaus and on to the Simonyhütte. Not for beginners!
Hike from the Krippenstein to Simonyhütte
The hike to the Simonyhütte from the Upper Austrian side is usually made with cable car assistance from Obertraun. The route to the hut, built in 1877, starts at the Gjaidalm and has several return options.
Tips: Hiking in autumn
Autumn is here! Hooray! The most beautiful hiking season of the year! However, there are a few things you should keep in mind when hiking, especially at this time of year.
- Plan tours properly.
- Start early. Especially for high alpine hikes.
- Attention: It gets dark early!
- If you are staying overnight in a hut, register in good time by telephone.
- Do not miss the last cable car ride down the mountain when on mountain tours.
- Information on the current operating times of the cable cars in connection with a hike can be found below under "Information at a Glance".
- Check snow conditions. Because at this time of the year the first snow can already fall in the high mountains.
- We have summarised further important safety tips below.
